About Department
The Department of Physics at Mugberia Gangadhar Mahavidyalaya, currently affiliated with Vidyasagar University, commenced its operations in 1997. In 2011, the department attained full-fledged status, offering Physics as both a General and Honors subject under the university. The performance of students from the Physics Department at Mugberia Gangadhar Mahavidyalaya in University Examinations has been commendable over the years. Graduates have excelled in various fields, enrolling in prestigious institutions such as VU, IITs, and different central universities for their M.Sc. courses.
The Choice-Based Credit System (CBCS) was introduced in the academic session 2018-19 in the Physics Department. Recently, a 4-YEAR UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMME under the Curriculum& Credit Framework for Undergraduate Programmes (CCFUP), 2023, and NEP,2020, has been initiated starting from the 2023-2024 academic session.
Presently, the department comprises one full-time faculty, five SACT members, and two technical staff. The teaching staff actively engage in both classroom teaching and research work. The department organizes various extracurricular activities involving students, including periodic seminars on current research topics by eminent personalities, an annual general meeting, Student-Teacher group discussions on subject topics, Fresher Welcome events, Teachers’ Day celebrations, Parent-Teacher meetings, etc.
Research facilities:
Dr. Wadut Shaikh conducts research in the field of experimental high-energy physics, with a specific focus on investigating the properties of Quark Gluon Plasma (QGP). His research involves studying the production of quarkonium in various collision scenarios, including proton-proton, proton-lead, and lead-lead collisions at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). Additionally, Dr. Shaikh is actively engaged in phenomenological work within this field. For details visit :

Mr. Gourchand Manna's research is centered around the study of nuclear structure using gamma ray spectroscopy as a primary tool. His current research emphasis is on examining the structural information of nuclei within the mass 82 and 140 regions.
Mr. Sourav Das is involved in the design and analysis of efficient wave propagation of three-dimensional solitons in photonic crystal fiber, with a particular focus on understanding their properties and behavior.
